The forward was written by 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient and internationally respected Crow Tribal Historian Dr. Joseph Medicine Crow. Dr. Medicine Crow explains the bestowment of the title "Son of the Morning Star" upon Alexander, the only many to carry the name aside from Custer himself.
